The Area Around Puerto Pollensa

Situated in Northern Mallorca, Puerto Pollensa is a favourite location for holiday makers. It has developed from a quaint fishing village into a thriving and picturesque resort, with a stunning back drop of the Tramuntana mountains. It has some interesting little lanes to investigate, a main square and a lovely harbour. Puerto Pollensa has a pretty horseshoe shaped bay, which is extremely sheltered, and a laid back atmosphere, where people uphold the old tradition of evening paseo, a stroll along the marina to look at the elegant yachts moored there, and then on past pavement cafes and the Pine Walk.

There are more than 100 cafes, restaurants and other eateries in Puerto Pollensa with a good selection of international cuisine such as Indian, Chinese, Italian and French. Mallorquin cooking is a must. Lechona is delicious roast suckling pig, and other fine dishes include Tumbet, a ratatouille and potato dish. Los Zarzales is a lovely restaurant serving traditional local dishes and amazing deserts like Catalan crème with rosemary. Close to the marina, it has sea views from the terrace and live jazz on several nights. Restaurante O Lume has Northern Spanish dishes such as cod fish al Ajoarriero and cheese mousse and honey.

There are plenty of watersports on offer in and around Puerto Pollensa. The beaches in the area are attractive, safe and clean and it is not difficult to find some quiet bays to discover. Slightly further afield, the scenery around Puerto Pollensa is beautiful and just waiting to be discovered. It is well worth driving out to a vineyard for a tour and wine tasting. There are several interesting towns to visit nearby such as Pollensa town, a medieval inland town where there is a colourful and bustling market on Sundays. Here you can visit the Roman Bridge, Santo Domingo Cloister and Calvario Steps. A drive to Alcudia town, the former capital of Mallorca, and known as Pollentia, will reward you with a fascinating Roman Site. Alcudia was founded by the Romans in 123 BC. While in Alcudia, visit the Roman amphitheatre that at one time would seat over 2000 people. Only 4 miles from Pollensa lies the lovely resort of Cala de Sant Vincenc, with 4 beautiful bays, stretching between the foothills of 2 mountain ranges. On the drive to Cala de Sant Vincenc, you will travel through the Vall de Sant Vincenc, where a blaze of colour can be seen in summer from the fields of poppies up in the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range.
